A few years ago, if anyone had talked to us about agentic purchasingโan artificial intelligence that chooses, decides, and completes a payment for usโwe would have thought it was science fiction. Today it is reality, and N&TS GROUP has the technology to integrate it into the purchasing process.

We would like to thank Consorzio Netcomm for the invitation to “Agentic Commerce: the state of the art and possible scenarios,” a high-level discussion featuring our CEO Elena Cossio and our CTO Maurizio Serra.
Our perspective from the payments side: the technology is available, and the specifications are there. What is missing are the regulations.
Today, an agent is capable of completing the checkout, but the payment system does not know who is operating on the other side. Without this information, it is impossible to prove that the purchase is authorized.
For this reason, we believe the first phase will be agent recognition, even before payment protocols. The relevant question is not how much an agent can spend, but whether we can prove it is authorized to perform that transaction, at that moment, on behalf of that person.
Building this trust infrastructure seems impossible, just as agentic purchasing itself once seemed impossible. It was, until someone started doing it.
Challenge accepted.ย
