The final event of the Innovative Payments Observatory took place on March 13, presenting data on the evolution of digital payments in Italy.
2024 finally marks the year in which digital (43%) surpasses cash (41%)
The total amount of payments reached 481 billion euros, marking an 8.5% growth compared to the previous year and confirming the habit of Italians to use cards even for small amounts (average receipt: €42.5). Payments made via mobile and wearable devices recorded exceptional growth, reaching 47.4 billion euros by the end of the year (+58%). Digital payments are growing more than the European average (+15.6% in Italy versus +7.4% in the EU).
The Politecnico Observatory confirms itself as one of the points of reference in the sector, an opportunity to network, share data and explore issues with the community, discussing together the future of digital payments.
