The six-monthly edition of the Innovative Payments Observatory of Politecnico di Milano, presented at the Conference “Digital payments in Italy in 2023”, confirms itself as the reference event for the sector, offering a snapshot of digital payments today and a timely and complete analysis of current trends.
In the first half of 2023, #Italia #pagamentidigitali transactions reached €206 billion, up +13% on the same period in 2022: digital payments at the end of the year could reach a value of between €425 and €440 billion, slightly lower than the total cash transaction.
An even greater growth was recorded in the number of #transazionieffettuate (+17.6%), which reached €4.5 billion, with a consequent decrease in the average receipt equal to €45.7 today (almost €2 less than twelve months ago, when the figure stopped at €47.5).
Among the #pagamentifisici, the value of contactless payments exceeded €100 billion in the first half of 2023, continuing its growth.
The #Mobile & #Wearable Payment market is confirmed as one of the main drivers of #crescita: transactions in the first half of the year reached €12.2 billion (+97%), while transactions grew by 108% to a total of €450 million.
Finally, in Italy today there are over #3milioni #POS terminals (about 1 for every 20,000 inhabitants): the traditional POS is progressively giving way to the new tools that have landed on the market, #SmartPOS and #SoftPOS that could support an even greater growth of digital payments by serving new customer groups.
